Sophia Kacimi’s “Play on Craft” at the 1.54 Art Fair
Step into a Colorful World of Interactive Art and Cultural Collaboration
In a stunning fusion of art and interaction, French-Moroccan artist Sophia Kacimi (Instagram) is set to unveil her enthralling installation, “Play on Craft,” at the esteemed 1.54 Contemporary African Art Fair this October. From the 10th to the 13th, Somerset House in London will transform into a dynamic playground, where Kacimi invites art lovers and casual observers alike to engage with a giant chessboard that bursts with color and creativity.
Kacimi’s installation features 32 sculptural pieces, each meticulously crafted from foam and luxurious jacquard upholstery fabric—materials that echo the rich fabric of Moroccan heritage. This isn’t just a visual feast; the installation blurs the lines between spectator and participant, encouraging visitors to step onto the board and partake in the timeless game of chess. Here, art transcends traditional boundaries, inviting a dialogue that is both playful and profound.
